Holiday Decor is More Than Just Ornaments

What does your home look like around Christmas? A tree? A few ornaments on the mantel? Lights on the outside of the house? Typically, Christmas decorations center around ornaments, which is great. However, there is so much more to Christmas decoration than merely the ornaments.

Christmas, for all its joy and celebration, demands a decor that penetrates into all the little details-those small but necessary elements that communicate the importance of Christmas. If you want to turn your home into a Winter Wonderland, especially if you are planning on hosting holiday parties, consider adding these accents to make it an extra special occasion.

Christmas Blankets

Christmas is all about snuggling up with a warm cup of wassail, and the company of family and friends. Use some Christmas themed blankets to not only decorate your home but to also use for warmth.

Vinyl Art

Vinyl wall art is growing in popularity. Placing removable snowflakes, images, or holiday messages on your walls is a bold decorating choice that transforms an otherwise ordinary room into one that in inescapably Christmas.

Christmas Games

With so many family and friends coming over, you might as well break out a Christmas game. If you cannot find a Christmas game, you can start by buying a Christmas colored checkers set.

Christmas Kitchen

Don't overlook the kitchen. Since much of the holiday activity happens in the kitchen, you will want to make this place a focus for your Christmas décor. Dishes, potholders, mugs, tea sets, placemats, napkins, trivets, dishtowels, silverware, plates, cups, bowls, tablecloths, table runners-all of these are available in Christmas style. Whether you are preparing the meal or simply enjoying it, make sure it is decked out with Christmas spirit.

Christmas Clock

A glance at the clock can even reveal your Christmas spirit. Find a holiday clock that chimes "ho ho ho" on the hour or some other holiday message.

Doormat

Everyone sees it (and hopefully uses it) when they step into your home. Use a Christmas doormat to set the stage for the inside of your home.

Little Details

You can use shower curtain rings to add that small, yet noticeable touch to your bathroom. Use a vinyl cling to decorate the toilet lid with holiday cheer, or put up a Christmas-colored shower curtain. Add a Christmas nightlight to a dark hallway or in the kids' room. Wrap your tissue box with a Christmas cover. These little details will make a big difference.

Don't Forget the Scent

Christmas décor is about what you smell just as much as it is what you see. You can infuse your home with wonderful Christmas scents from candles, potpourri collections, or lamp oils.
