Choosing the Perfect Picture Frame

How do you choose the perfect picture frame? There are a wide variety of ways and reasons to choose a picture frame. Listed below are just a few.

1. Decide first what picture you are framing? Is it a fun, whimsical picture that you want to enhance or do you want a frame that does not distract from the picture, is it all about the picture? For a fun, whimsical picture an ornate frame would not do, it should be a smaller frame that adds depth to the picture. A clear frame, with just an edge could be used if you only want to show the picture with no distractions.

2. How large is the picture you are framing? Large paintings often have large ornate frames. The colors in the frame often enhance the paintings colors and bring out the different light tones. While smaller snap shots are often framed in simple wood frames that enhance the photo.

3. Where will you be displaying the picture? Is the room a formal room, often nice wood frames or even slender metal frames are the perfect picture frames for this type of room. Is the room a rustic cabin decor, rustic wood picture frames made from logs, driftwood or barn wood are the type of frames would accent this room. Make sure that the frame fit's the room's decor.

4. Remember that it is fun to have the unexpected in your room. What is meant by this is that it doesn't have to be a picture to be in a frame. Mirrors, scrapbook pages, fabric swatches, quilts, pressed flowers, special documents, almost anything can be put in a picture frame to accent your home. It is becoming popular to have vinyl letters placed in a series of picture frames to spell a word out on the wall. Picture frames can be used to make serving trays or mirrors. Think outside of the ordinary and have fun in your decorating scheme.

The important thing to remember is that it needs to be your space and you need to feel comfortable and cozy with your home décor.
