Best HR Hitter - Ruth, Aaron, Or Bonds?

This is a debate that might land you a different answer depending on who you ask. No matter what, the controversy is rampant, thanks to a steroid controversy in baseball that begins to seem more and more obvious by the year. Still, many will argue that stats are stats and that things have changed over time, as hitting conditions were easier in the past.

Having said that, let's look at some of the accomplishments of each of the three greatest home run hitters in the history of baseball, each by his own standards.

Babe Ruth changed the game of baseball and to this day, many still see him as the king of the home run. He once hit 60 home runs in a season, and held the all-time home run record for about 40 years, before Hank Aaron broke his record with number 715.

Speaking of Aaron, his 755 career home runs stood on their own as the most all-time for over 30 years. Aaron never had the huge home run totals that Ruth did, but he did maintain an amazing level of consistency through the span of his 20+ year career. Many people call him the best for this reason.

Then there's Barry Bonds, the more recent heir to the throne. Not only did Bonds shatter the records with 73 home runs in a year, but his 762 career home runs are the most of all-time. Still, these records will always be tainted by the controversy that tied Bonds directly to steroids use.

As you can see, this is a debate with no clear answer.
